LGBTQ+ Couples Counselling Sunshine Coast

Inclusive, Affirming Support for LGBTQ+ Relationships

At Calming The Circle Therapy, we provide inclusive, affirming LGBTQ+ couples counselling on the Sunshine Coast, supporting individuals and partners of all identities, orientations, and relationship structures.

We understand that while all relationships share common challenges, LGBTQ+ couples may also navigate unique experiences shaped by identity, community, and broader social dynamics. Our approach creates a safe, respectful space where you can explore your relationship openly, without judgement.

Located in Buderim, we support couples across the Sunshine Coast and via Telehealth Australia-wide.

A Safe Space to Be Fully Yourself

Feeling understood and emotionally safe is essential in therapy. At Calming The Circle Therapy, we prioritise creating an environment where you can bring your full self into the room.

Our work is grounded in:

  • Affirming diverse identities and relationship structures

  • Respecting each partner’s lived experience

  • Supporting open, honest communication

  • Creating emotional safety for both individuals

Whether you are in a same-sex relationship, gender-diverse relationship, or exploring identity within your relationship, you are welcome here.

Common Areas of Support

LGBTQ+ couples may seek therapy for many of the same reasons as any couple, as well as additional layers of complexity.

We support couples with:

Poor or negative communication patterns

Intimacy and sexual connection

External stress, discrimination, or societal pressure

Emotional disconnection or feeling distant

Navigating identity within the relationship

Parenting and future planning

Trust concerns or rebuilding after rupture

Family dynamics and acceptance

Differences in values, needs, or relationship expectations

Understanding Unique Relationship Dynamics

While many relationship patterns are universal, LGBTQ+ couples can experience additional pressures that impact connection.

These may include:

  • Navigating societal expectations or lack of representation

  • Managing family acceptance or rejection

  • Exploring identity alongside relationship dynamics

  • Balancing individuality and partnership in non-traditional structures

At the same time, many LGBTQ+ relationships demonstrate strong communication, adaptability, and resilience. Therapy builds on these strengths while supporting areas that feel challenging.
